Privacy Policy

ReadItOut is a product of VeraForge Technologies Corp., 10 Four Seasons Place, Suite 1000, Etobicoke, ON M9B 6H7, Canada. This policy explains what we collect, what we don't, and the controls you have. We've kept it in plain language on purpose.
What we collect
Account information: your email address and sign-in credentials.
Content you choose to process: when you select a screen region, take a photo, paste text, or upload a file, we process that content to extract text and read it aloud. For uploaded files, text extraction happens on your device and the file itself never leaves your browser. The extracted text is saved to your library so you can replay or export it.
Billing information: payments are handled by Polar, our payment provider. We never see or store your full card details.
Usage and analytics: we use analytics and advertising measurement tools, currently including a Reddit measurement pixel and our platform's built-in site analytics, to understand how people find and use ReadItOut. This includes standard technical data like browser type and pages visited.
What we don't do
We never capture your full screen. Screen capture is limited to the exact region you select, cropped on your device before anything is sent, and it only happens when you start a read.
We never store your captured images. Screen captures and camera photos are processed in memory to extract text, then discarded. Camera photos are stripped of all metadata, including location, before they're sent. Only the text is saved.
We never receive your uploaded files. Files you upload are read entirely in your browser; we receive only the extracted text. We keep that text, not your document.
We never sell your personal information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
How your content is processed
To turn text into speech, the text is sent to our AI voice provider (currently OpenAI). To extract text from screen captures and camera photos, those images are processed by an AI text-recognition service (currently Google). If you use translation, the text you translate is processed by our AI providers as well. These providers process your content to deliver the service and may process data in the United States or other countries. We send them the minimum needed to do the job.
Your library and retention
Your saved reads stay in your account until you delete them. Free accounts keep your most recent reads (currently your latest 20, with pinned reads exempt); older unpinned reads are automatically removed. Premium accounts have no cap. If your premium plan lapses, your archive is retained and unlocks if you renew.
When you delete a read or your account, it's removed from our systems. Records we're legally required to keep, like billing history, are retained only as long as the law requires.
Your rights and controls
You can export your reads or delete them at any time, on any plan. You can request access to or correction of your personal information, or withdraw consent, by emailing privacy@getreaditout.com. We follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you're not satisfied with how we've handled a privacy concern, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies for sign-in and for the analytics and advertising measurement described above. You can limit these through your browser settings; core features like sign-in need essential cookies to work.
Children
ReadItOut isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top. Meaningful changes will be highlighted on this page.
